Today’s 80 mile challenge
Riding For Rita

 15 May 2019

Today the challenge was 80 miles- further than either of us have ever cycled in a day before! More sun and less wind, which was a good start.

We made our way towards Exeter on quiet country lanes and did some slightly challenging navigation around the city. Generally flatter terrain today, which made for slightly easier riding. We stopped for a pub lunch in Churchinford, and sat in a sunny courtyard.

Onwards into Somerset. Afternoon tea break was next to Burrow Mump, an attractive church ruin on top of a hill. The final leg took us though farmland and along Glastonbury high street, where the aroma of joss sticks filled the air and a fortune teller sat on the pavement. We arrived at Wells with tired legs, but were impressed by the beautiful cathedral and cobbled streets. A definite photo opportunity! Another mile and we were at our final destination of Wookey Hole.

We refuelled on delicious pasta with an old friend at an Italian restaurant, in an attempt to prepare for tomorrow!
