New Forest Post

He is the award-winning equine health specialist whose charity is a roaring success.

Prof Derek Knottenbelt founded Vets with Horsepower, a group of vets and lecturers who also happen to be bikers.

He came up with the idea after winning a Harley Davidson motorcycle in a raffle.

Prof Knottenbelt was given a rousing reception after riding into Lymington on his bike to deliver a lecture to horse owners who use Seadown Veterinary Services.

Almost 200 people attended his talk on equine diseases associated with winter weather.

He said:

I firmly believe in trying to share useful information about horses so owners can use vets more sensibly, improving the health and welfare of horses and in th eprocess of raising money for charities.

"Prof Knottenbelt also had warm words of praise for Seadown."

He said:

"Local equine owners are very lucky to have some of the best equine vets in the country and the best vet practice in The New Forest."

The event raised £1,417 for three charities supports by Vets with Horsepower.
