The Equine team at Seadown provide a professional, high quality ambulatory and clinic based service to our clients. Our client base is broad consisting of competition horses, family and native ponies, and even the New Forest Donkeys!
Unlike other equine veterinary practices in the New Forest area, Seadown also offers an excellent equine ophthalmology referral service for horses and donkeys. Injuries and infections in equines can be common and in most cases are not serious but it is important to check all eye injuries to prevent a minor problem becoming more serious. Since Seadown has its own equine ophthalmology referral service, it greatly helps our first opinion vets to ensure quick and efficient eye referral treatment if it is found to be necessary. Eye problems may include traumatic injury, conjunctivitis, ulcers and foreign bodies.
Seadown is also unique in having a long term, in-depth understanding and experience of treating all animals in the forest and treats a huge diversity of horses, not just the ponies on the forest but also competition horses, pleasure ponies, donkeys and miniature Shetlands.
Being deeply embedded in the forest ways and activities for so many years, Seadown is proud to provide honorary veterinary services to the New Forest Pony Breeders and Commoners Defence Society, together with involvement in the annual stallion passing, breed show, point-to-point and welfare tours. Then there is veterinary cover at the New Forest Show every Summer
Seadown has a wide case load including routine health care, a considerable amount of geriatric medicine, lameness investigations including stem cell therapy and as well as clinical cases the practice also spends time with the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Animal unit, due to their position in the UK as leading animal rescue unit.
Full in/outpatient facilities at the Equine Clinic enable procedures to be carried out in the appropriate environment, with high quality nurse support. If hospitalisation is necessary, you can be assured that your horse will receive first class care.
The ambulatory vets have full computer access to your animal's records, enabling immediate clinical history assessment, which can be of particular importance with out of hours emergencies.
Seadown provides a full out of hours veterinary service, including veterinary nurse phone cover, thus ensuring continuity of treatment and familiar faces in times of crisis!
Our dedicated office staff will ensure your enquiries are dealt with efficiently and appropriately.

I manage a yard of 25 horses and have used Seadown for many years. During this time I have used their services from routine vaccinations to emergency situations. A perfect example of this is, when our 4 year old thoroughbred Harry severed his artery in his front leg. Within 10 minutes of calling the practice Gillies Moffat arrived. This horse is incredibly needle shy and very sharp (not helpful when he’s 17hh). Gillies quickly and safely sedated the horse. He managed to put a stitch in the artery and wrap the leg, He then helped us load the horse to transport to Liphook. After several weeks at Liphook, Harry came Home. Gillies continued to treat Harry through his recovery. Gillies' quiet nature, skill and professional attitude was faultless. I can not recommend this equine practice enough. Every member of the team go above and beyond. Thank you Seadown

We have used Seadown as our vets since 1973 and in that time Trudy Nineham and I have seen the practice develop and expand dramatically. What has not changed in that time however has been the friendly, efficient service coupled with the expertise and skills of the equine vets who are always prepared to go the extra mile to solve the various problems that we inevitably encounter on our large yard.

Decoy Pond Farm Livery stables have used Seadown Veterinary Group for a very long time! We have seen a variety of vets, of all ages, over the years with different specialisms. We have found the vets to be knowledgeable, kind to the animals, considerate and helpful and not too proud to discuss or research difficult cases. During a strangles outbreak in 2016 we worked closely with the vets to successfully quarantine the yard and limit and contain the spread of the infection. The Seadown vets were experts at using the endoscope which provided the final all clear for each horse that had been infected. I would highly recommend the practice for their professional services to animals of all shapes and sizes.

I have used Seadown Veterinary Services for my animals both large and small over a great number of years . Over that time the vets have always gone the extra mile to give my animals the best care possible during both the good, and the sad and difficult ones.
More recently we have been unlucky enough to have a young New Forest mare develop a sarcoid dangerously near her eye. We could not fault the care and attention she received over many months and are relieved to say the treatment has worked, and we are now looking forward to the Spring to arrive to enjoy her.Thank you to all the team at Seadown.
